Hackintosh Basics

What is hackintosh? Hackintosh is simply installing Mac OS on non-apple machine. Let’s get started with hackintosh but first let’s have a bit of knowledge with regulations. Hackintoshing is “Ok?” as long as if you own a Mac or the Mac OS as long as not making business out of it you will be fine.

Creating Bootable Mac OS USB installer
This step will be the same for laptop and desktop. Here we use Olarila, Olarila is home of vanilla. So what is Vanilla? Basically Vanilla use Appstore version of Mac OS with clover bootloader to hackintosh and Olarila provides a better chance of success. Whereas Niresh uses the Appstore version of Mac OS but it has been modified with clover bootloader. Amongst the two, Vanilla is better because of its compatibility. Let’s get started! We’re are aiming with intel processor in this tutorial.
  • Choose which Mac OS version that will be supported for our desktop or laptop. Newer generation of processor supports newer version of Mac OS, High Sierra or Sierra is a good start for most machine. If you have Nvidia Graphic card only fermi and kepler plates will work and unfortunately for optimus it will not work on any version. Don’t worry lots of the pc has intel integrated graphic. As for AMD GPU only, some series will be compatible with Hackintosh. 4. Here I chose Mojave the latest one, Since I don’t have Nvidia Graphic card or supported AMD.
  • Here’s the file we downloaded and the one next to it is after extracted.

  • For window we can use etcher or win32diskimager. As for Mac we can use etcher. Here we’re going to use etcher.
Setting Up BIOS and booting to your USB

General Bios settings:
  • Load Optimized Defaults
  • If your CPU supports VT-d, disable it
  • If your system has CFG-Lock, disable it
  • If your system has Secure Boot Mode, disable it
  • Set OS Type to Other OS
  • If your system has IO SerialPort, disable it
  • Set XHCI Handoff to Enabled
  • Set Controller From Raid to Ahci (Some Bios doesn’t have it but try anyway, some are supported some aren’t)
  • Boot mode UEFI only
For MSI BIOS (some bios are similar): Boot into bios setting by pressing “DELETE” button
  • Settings>Advanced>Super IO Configuration
    • Here we will disable both Serial and Parallel Port Config
  • Settings>Advanced>Integrated Peripherals
    • Set SATA mode to AHCI
  • Settings>Advanced>Integrated Graphics Configuration o Integrated Graphics Memory set to 64MB
    • IGD Multi-Monitor set to Enabled
  • Settings>Advanced>USB Configuration o Enable USB Controller o Enable XHCI Hand-Off o Enable Legacy USB Support
  • Settings>Boot o Set Boot Select Mode as Legacy+UEFI
Problems Booting Window after switching from Raid to AHCI? Let your pc or laptop run diagnostic automatically until we see Automatic Repair, Select Advanced Options>Troubleshoot>Advanced options> See more recovery options>Startup Setting>Restart |Then Press number 4 or 5 both boots to safe mode but 5 enables networking. After this you can open window normally.

You can dual boot with Window and Mac. If you want to install Mac only please go ahead, you can always install another operating system. Installing hackintosh only? Proceed to STEP 4.

Dual Boot

Single Disk
  1. . Go to Start and search “Disk Management” or “create and format hard disk partitions”
  2. . Assuming your disk is in GPT.
  3. Shrink the desire partition which has the largest available space to the desired space for installing Hackintosh (recommends 60 Gb and above)
  4. Then right click on the unallocated and create new simple volume with the name “Hackintosh” just to know which partition we should erase later with disk utility on Mac installer.
  5. If your disk is not in GPT, sorry you have to format the whole disk and install Hackintosh first then install window.
Multiple Disk
  1. Go to Start and search “Disk Management” or “create and format hard disk partitions”
  2. Assuming your disk is in GPT.
  3. You can format another disk for Hackintosh but if you have data on that disk you can shrink it and create a new partition name “Hackintosh” so we can know which partition to erase to avoid deleting your important data.(recommends 60 Gb and above).
  4. If that disk is not in GPT you have to erase the whole disk with GPT
Booting to USB and Install
You can boot to USB with window by going to Setting>Update & Security>Recovery> Advance Startup, Click Restart now then you will see this and click on Use a device and select your USB.

You can also boot with boot manager or change boot priority in BIOS and put USB boot the top priority. With a google search you can see which key you need to press for booting into Boot Manager. Example Search, “Lenovo boot manager key”, “Hp boot manager key”, “How to boot into boot manager on HP” …….etc.

  • So now we are here on the usb
  • Press O not zero

  • Then go to config, use the mouse to click on it or use the arrow key and press enter. Choose config for desktop and config2 for laptop

  • Now we return by pressing escape key.
  • Next we go to graphic injector

  • Check inject intel use fake id 0x12345678 then boot into the installer.
  • Encountering problems? Stuck? Please take video of your verbose mode(some weird texts when booting to installer) and post onto Hackintosh Olarila and/or Hackintosh group.
  • Follow the instructions appeared and until you see this. Click on Disk Utility and click on the volume name “Hackintosh” and click on erase and name to anything you want and choose the format Mac OS Extended (Journaled) click on erase. Then exit Disk utility and choose the volume “name” you want to install on.
Post Install
For post install please ask for assistance. Ask the person who sent you this or go to the Hackintosh Group. Or go to Olarila.com and read guide for post installation.
